Bioshock Infinite arrived. Giddy all over I threw, “literally threw it”, into my console, JAMMED the power button and sat back awaiting the experience of a lifetime. What I got was a beautiful disaster.
Lara Croft is back and dare I say better than ever! Without a doubt she must have been hanging out with Nathan Drake a bit to learn the ropes, but man it paid off. Tomb Raider is the best kind of reimagining. Offering a human story full of gut wrenching death sequences and a story filled with mature themes about what it takes to survive. Lara Croft, you just kicked Nathan Drake right in the crotch.
Growing up outside of Austin in a small town I often found an oasis in Film and Video Games. Watching Arnold annihilate bad guys as Conan the Barbarian is unforgettable. Playing Tetris and Castlevania on the original nintendo, just as… unforgettable. Never in my years would I imagine playing countless video games on a number of systems, going to the University of Texas, being introduced to Austin, graduating, moving to NY, moving back to Austin, getting married, and finally after all that going to my first SXSW show just a few days ago. Why did I wait this long?!?!
Are you ready to turn bad guys into chopped beef? If that’s a yes then Metal Gear Rising is your game. Kicking off a few years after Metal Gear Solid 4, Rising features the ever so angry Raiden cutting down bad guys for reasons you probably will never understand.
The infamous Dante returns in Devil May Cry. Everyones favorite Anti-hero is just as awesome as you remember, he just happens to be younger and sporting a new hair du. Kicking off as an origin story, DMC introduces Dante “fully nude” into limbo and screams forward as you slaughter many demons and uncover your drama-filled past.
“Have I ever told you… the definition of insanity?” These words are spoken by a true sociopath. A man by the name of Vaas, the very one who forces you into Far Cry 3’s jungle, where you will embark on a journey that, may or may not, reveal the depths of madness.
Rage was an interesting experience for me. As a long time fan of id I was looking forward to Rage. However, when it was released, it was met with mediocre reviews. I usually never let such atrocities affect my decision, but this time around I was indeed affected and never went out and supported the latest from id. Late is better than never I guess, and I have just spent several hours in the wasteland, and I came out with just the response I feared. It was OK.
